Celebrities with surprising and unusual hobbies from hoarding insects to Johnny Depp's Barbie doll collection

Gambar
Celebrities are constantly in the spotlight wowing in sleek outfits with glam makeup and hair looks, but behind closed doors, when they're not walking the red carpet or gracing us with their presence on TV screens, certain stars have some pretty random hobbies. Our interest was peaked when we fixed our eyes on presenter Jonathan Ross' epic man cave during an appearance on Loose Women whilst talking about life in lockdown. In the background an eclectic conglomeration of comics, cult films, games, books and more could be spotted and, no, Jonathan's hobby isn't hoarding, but is instead comics, and characters from them! Oh, and he's not alone, with TV chef Gino D'Acampo also being a huge fan and, in his Hertfordshire home, he has an entire glass cabinet dedicated to Marvel and DC superheroes. Which got us thinking – which other quirky celebrity hobbies are there out there? Let's take a look… Johnny Depp Read More Related Articles Read More Related Articl...

A doll that teaches diversity

Gambar
Ayear ago, when Jamal Siddiqui and Shweta Verma founded Ginny's Planet Pvt. Ltd, a Delhi-based social enterprise, their mission statement was simple: "We aim to build a planet where no one is considered the odd-one-out on the basis of differences." The husband-wife team, with a four-year-old son born with congenital conditions, including a radial club hand, was determined to remove the stigma around disability. "It was a tipping point for us," Siddiqui says on the phone, referring to the barrage of questions and ignorant remarks they had heard in their social circle till then. Initially, Siddiqui, whose expertise is in public health, and Verma, a disability activist and mental health professional, considered using their nearly two-decade-long experience in the social sector to train teachers and parents. But to achieve this effectively, they needed a tool, one that would, through nuanced messaging, make children understand the reality o...

Labor of Love Recap: Welcome to the Doll House — Plus Who Are the Final 3?

Gambar
© Courtesy of Fox It's ironic, in an episode of Labor of Love filled with the cries of simulated infants, that the most grating sound is the whiny complaining of a fully grown man. This week, Marcus apparently looked up "reality show game play" on Google and decided that he was going to "mastermind" — his words — the situation to ensure that his biggest competition would get sent home. Except it didn't really work, and now the doc and two others are in Kristy's Final 3. Read on for the highlights of "You've Got Babies." At 2:27 am, Kristy is woken up by the sound of a baby crying in her living room. She comes out to find Kristin Davis there, ready to hand her a doll designed to act and sound like a newborn. "I didn't exactly have time to prepare for this," Kristy interviews, cradling the kid — but you had time to do full makeup? Just wondering — "but I'm hoping I'll catch on quickly....

“Raising Baby Grey” Explores the World of Gender-Neutral Parenting

Gambar
A cursory look at some popular themes for the recent phenomenon of gender-reveal parties—"wheels or heels," "touchdowns or tutus," "bows or arrows"—makes it difficult to deny that boys and girls are funnelled into a gender binary that can be almost comically rigid. The first piece of information parents tend to receive about who their child will be—often, as with the gender-reveal crowd, before birth—is the shape of the child's genitals. This moment of discovery can mark the beginning of a lifelong process of gender socialization. For some parents, the desire to know and influence their child's identity starts when a doctor determines the child's sex. Even parents who want to avoid limiting a child's possibilities cannot remove their child from a world in which clothes, toys, and playmates are divided, in many contexts, according to gender. Gender is one of the first distinctions children learn to notice in themselves and others, and, even ...
