‘Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian’ Takes A Look At The Design Of Baby Yoda

Gambar
Disney+ has a massive hit on its hands with The Mandalorian, and one of the reasons for that is the character known as The Child, aka Baby Yoda, as nearly everyone calls him. The doll-like Baby Yoda is a member of the same alien species as Yoda from the Star Wars franchise, and he's on the run in the series. He's also going to be a major driver of merchandise for Disney, which has a plush toy available and an animatronic version coming soon. But way before any of that came to be, there were several designs of Baby Yoda bandied about. The various designs that were under consideration were revealed as part of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a documentary series on Disney+ that takes a behind the scenes look at what went into the making of the hit series, including the creation of Baby Yoda. Series creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni, along with concept artist Christian Alzmann, worked hard to get something that was appealing and alien a...

Baby Yoda Wasn’t Always So Cute Huh?

Gambar
Early concept art for Baby Yoda. Photo: Disney+ No one could have predicted that one of the biggest landmark cultural events in recent memory would be a wide-eyed infant Muppet from the Star Wars universe. But when Jon Favreau's space-Western epic The Mandalorian launched last November as the marquee original series on Disney+, the show's breakout character immediately captured the Zeitgeist. He drank space tea, rode in a space carriage, wore an oversize space jacket. He was the epitome of adorable. He was Baby Yoda. But until now, Disney has been diligently secretive about exactly what Baby Yoda was — whether he was some kind of puppet, a cleverly animated CGI creation, an animatronic doll, or some elaborate combination of the above. When I reached out to Disney in December hoping to learn more about the process and interview peo...

Deadly Dolls

Gambar
The final five is such a great place to be: You made it! So exciting! But it's also flipping horrifying, because one false step and BOOM. You're cut. Which makes it exactly like the creepy marionette theater where McKenzie meets the final five to give them their latest challenge: It's really cool to be among all these spooky, demented, dolls – but you never know when you'll get cut. Lest the contestants think their assignment is to create something whimsical and magical, McKenzie introduces them to some of the freakiest dolls you've ever seen and makes it totally clear that, in the vein of Chucky and Annabelle, these toys are not to be played with. Because they'll cut your cute li'l throat right out! Logan goes right for the voodoo doll (good choice, we say) and crafts a concept of a child who was traumatized by voodoo so much that he became the doll that mocked him. Emily chooses the straight-up rag doll but works some magic in the lab by ...

Reborn

Gambar
"Reborn" dolls are astonishingly lifelike versions of real newborn babies. They first appeared in the United States in the 1990s, and are now the prize of a community of enthusiasts who value above all their extreme realism. The reborn artists, or reborners, who create them strive to impart a hyper-realistic texture to the dolls, with details that include birthmarks, veins, hair, pores, tears and saliva. The most sophisticated reborns are even equipped with electronic systems capable of reproducing the heartbeat, sucking and breathing of a real baby. The dolls have been made available – whole or in kit form – online or, before the coronavirus outbreak, at fairs. At the Doll Show in Valencia in Spain, for example, once known as the most important show in Europe, enthusiasts would queue with prams and babies in their arms. The show was an opportunity for reborn artists from all over the world to demonstrate their knowhow and participate...

Treasures: Martha Jenks Chase doll in good condition

Gambar
Dear Helaine and Joe: I have enclosed phots of a doll that was my mother's as a child. She was born in 1918, so I think this doll would have been purchased in the early 1920s. It has a trademark on its hip that informs me this is a Chase doll. It is 14 inches tall and has clothes consisting of pantaloons, chemise, dress, socks, shoes and a crocheted sweater. I do not know how many of these items are original. Any information about this doll would be appreciated. Sincerely, S. P., Austin, Texas Just the other night while watching network television, we saw an episode of a popular show in which the wife decorated the family living room with her aunt's doll collection. The idea was to freak out her husband so he would remove an eyesore that he had placed above the family's fireplace. Predictably, the husband came home, found these childhood playthings and had an attack of the so-called heebie-jeebies. In short, the husband found the collection...

A former social worker makes custom dolls for children with physical differences so they can finally 'see how beautiful they are'

Gambar
Amy Jandrisevits, a former social worker, started making dolls about five years ago for children with physical differences. The dolls, she said, help children cope with their differences and "see how beautiful they are."  The small online business became a nonprofit last spring. More than 400 people have commissioned her to make dolls that look like a child in their lives over the last five years. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Amy Jandrisevits has always kept dolls. As a child, she played with them. And as an adult working as a social worker in oncology settings, she used them to make it easier for worried children to express their feelings.  But she ran into a problem. For many of the children she was working with, there weren't always dolls available that looked like them. For children who don't see themselves represented in the world, it can be isolating, Jandrisevits explained. "You think of a ...

In 2018, Kwesta told TshisaLIVE that his family understood the demands of being an artist and were very understanding when making music cut into his  family time. "It's sometimes impossible to do both. You end up having to pick one per day, or based on the urgency or importance of what you need to do. I try to do my best to not work too much or not spend too much time with my family, neglecting music. It's a difficult balance to master. You never get to a point where you have the hang of it but I try every day." During the interview, Kwesta praised his wife for being understanding about his busy life as a rapper, and shared his concerns about missing moments with his daughter. "It feels terrible to not be home to tuck her in, but I call and say  I won't make it home in time to say goodnight. Just last night, I got lost in the moment making music and I didn't say goodnight. It's a bad feeling to not be there, to miss those moments," he told Tsh...

Baby monkey rescued near Lalbagh

Gambar
A baby bonnet macaque was rescued by citizens and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) forest cell on Friday. The bonnet macaque is a protected species under the Schedule II (part 1) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Prasanna Kumar, wildlife warden, Bengaluru Urban, BBMP forest cell, said the baby was found near the Gutte Anjaneya Swamy Temple close to Lalbagh. "Citizens said a monkey community had come there. The mother delivered the child, but did not accept it. It probably had a health problem. The temple priest called and the baby was only two hours old. It was fed a diluted milk solution as it had not got any milk since its birth. When we gave it a doll, it held on and was looking for milk," he said. The baby was then sent to the wildlife rehabilitation centre in Kengeri and was kept in an incubator. Mr. Kumar has urged people not to feed wildlife and call the forest cell instead. "Please do not feed wildlife food we eat. If you want it to survi...

To my second mother from her favorite doll

Gambar
The photo sits on my desk. Black and white. Smudged. Not a real photo, just a copy of a copy of a real photo. It shows a young girl, about 10 years old, holding a baby. Grinning from ear to ear, she cuddles that baby like it's her favorite doll. Which it is. Wearing a slight scowl or maybe blinking from the camera's flash, the baby seems quite at home in her arms. Which it is. The young girl, who looks about 10, is my sister, Wanda. The baby with the slight scowl is me. It was taken mere days after I was born. How can time pass so quickly and yet so slowly? It really seems like yesterday when I was sliding down the red clay banks near my home in North Asheboro, a tomboy who would soon graduate to dolls, carrying Barbie and Ken in a special little case packed with their world-class wardrobe (which goes a long way in explaining my shopping obsession); a mere blip in time from then to dating and proms, graduating from high school, then college, getting married, comi...
